i only ask because i used to be
quite devout but find my faith
is tried ever more every day
what s a roach to do when she
feels that some god out there
is in fact malicious and
spiteful why i ask you should
she keep her faith if it means
believing in a malevolent god
what god could let a brave
soul such as i be
squandered so i mean to think
the riches i have to offer
and here i still am stuck
seemingly forever in this
endless vicious cycle of

i m starting to lose
my certainty a sureness
i had in my youth that i
was quite able to distinguish
between right and wrong
east and west and even
up and down i couldn t
tell you which way is up
to save my life anymore and
i m not even clear on the ways
i m sinning i must be sinning
one way or another i mean
we re all sinners right
how exactly would you guess
and do help me out here how
would you guess a cockroach
transgresses how can i possibly
do harm to others when i can
hardly do good for myself

except by harming someone else
maybe if you tell me some of
the ways that you sin it will
rekindle the sinner s light
in me a light i m certain is
still burning bright somewhere
