Up One

Those with Souls

I'm glad you like Adam's site. I'll
let him know tomorrow. I told him
I'd have to get your permission; I
know he thinks I'm crazy and that
the only people I have to check with
are my imaginary friends. He's quite
level headed about the whole thing
I must say. He hasn't really let on
what he thinks exactly. About me
having a roach friend I mean. Or
maybe he does think you're imaginary.
In any case, he seems harmless.
You'll have to give me some
descriptions of those awful women
you overheard. Wishing harm on
an innocent insect, what kind of
amoral person does that? I'll have
to find them and give them a
good talking to. I've been back
to Adam's site a few times now
and I think I'm starting to understand
some of his poems better. He's quite
a good photographer, don't you think?
It does strike me that he's a little
all over the place. You know, jack of
all trades, master of none. Whenever
I think of that saying, I'm reminded
of my favorite quote from Robert Heinlein,
which goes something like, "A human
being should be able to build a wall,
solve equations, cook a tasty meal, comfort
the dying, and die gallantly. Specialization
is for insects." I've never taken that to be
a slight against insects, not in any way.
Rather I think he was saying that
beings with souls must do more than
one thing. Too bad he never got
a load of you. Your soul is strong.
Don't you worry about that writer
witch. I'll find her and give her
a piece of my mind.
