Up One

No Lunatic

so savannah now i m a figment of
your imagination a raving lunatic
question mark that idea is one
we ll be able to laugh about
together one day i assure you
i m no lunatic my name
i m proud to tell you is
madeleine winifred somerset
my forebears were great men
i am growing more frightened
as the days wear on i must say
yesterday i was talking to this kid
couldn t have been more than six
months but i saw him sitting alone
by the hole in the kitchen wall he
looked really blue i don t make a habit
of fraternizing with the other roaches
as i ve mentioned but gosh he just
looked so down a mere child i
had to say something what s
the matter i asked you look
depressed what does that mean
he responded well it means you
look like you just saw a ghost or
something saw my own ghost
is more like it what on earth
do you mean i asked i was
talking to my dad about you know
about the cats and the dogs and
what makes the world go round
you know what he told me
no i said he told me we roaches
only live a few years i asked him
how old he is and he said he s
only three my own father three
years old how can this be
it s news to me i said i m 120
myself there s hope for you yet
i said but it got me thinking
whoever changed me must be
keeping me alive they do say
you know that life with torture
is a fate worse than death
whoever it is that s responsible
has it in for me somethin fierce
it s like all they want is to know
i m here suffering in roachdom
well i tell you what i m going
to find out who it is and
turn the tables as surely as
i m no lunatic
